Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko has been ruled out for a month

Manchester United have been dealt a blow as Benjamin Sesko faces around four weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The 22-year-old, who joined from RB Leipzig in August, suffered the injury during the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur before the international break. He was unable to finish the match after coming on in the second half.

Ruben Amorim admitted afterwards he was unsure how serious it was, but recent reports played down concerns the Slovenian striker had suffered something serious.

However, the 6ft 3in forward was ruled out of Slovenia’s recent World Cup qualifier against Kosovo and is now expected to be sidelined for around four weeks, although the exact timeframe is still unclear.

This is according to Sky Sports’ Danyal Khanwho claims the Slovenian international has avoided a major injury scare but is expected to be ruled out for at least another month.

The report adds that scans of the centre-forward’s injury have shown that it is not a serious injury as previously expected. He is now expected to return in time for the hectic Christmas schedule.

Blow

That timeline rules him out of the next round of Premier League matches against Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham United, and he could even miss the games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth if his recovery takes longer than expected.

However, Ruben Amorim will provide a further update on Sesko’s condition during his pre-Everton press conference in Carrington on Friday.

The timing of the injury couldn’t be more unfortunate, especially as United prepare for one of the most demanding games of the season. Amorim’s side have avoided major fitness issues so far, but the attack could look thin without Sesko.

The Slovenian began to build momentum and earn more minutes after a steady, if unspectacular, start in England, where he scored twice.

Now the Red Devils will have to rely even more on their remaining attackers – and that will become an even bigger problem with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month.
