The German playmaker has been panned by some commentators for failing to live up to expectations since his £100m, which could rise to £116m, move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
Wirtz is yet to score in the English top flight and none of his 16 key passes have resulted in a goal for Liverpool, although he did score two goals in the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League last month.

Despite the lack of an end product, Woltemade believes that his German colleague played better than he is credited with.
“Adjusting is not easy for any player. But he is doing very well,” the Newcastle United striker told RTL/n-tv/sport.de.
“On paper you may not see the goals, but if you compare my games with his, he is much more involved in the game.
“I’ve probably been in the right place three or four times, received the ball and scored, but he’s very active in the game, gets a lot of touches and makes good plays.”
Woltemade made his own move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League last summer, joining Newcastle from Stuttgart for £69 million. The 23-year-old has had a much more enjoyable year, winning the German Cup with his previous club and reaching the final of the U21 European Championship with Germany. This season he also scored eight goals for club and country.
“It’s been a really crazy year. I’ve experienced so much – moments I could never have imagined before,” he said.
“It’s sometimes hard to comprehend. A year like this is not something you take for granted. I am very grateful for it and want to keep working on such great moments.”
