Nick Wolte looked humble as ever after his man of the match performance with two goals

Nick Woltemade scored his eighth and nine goals of the season on Friday evening.

Over the past two months, the 23-year-old has scored six times for Newcastle United and now three times for Germany.

These last two stylish finishes were so important as Germany look to qualify for next summer’s World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico and the US.

This 2-0 away win against Luxembourg means Germany will finish top of the group and qualify automatically if they avoid defeat at home to Slovakia in the final round of the group matches on Monday.

Nick Woltemade has made such an impact, both on and off the pitch, since arriving at St James’ Park.

Big Nick, exactly the same with Germany, so humble and unassuming, a great character.

Nick Woltemade reflects on this crucial victory and his last two goals:

“The way we played in the first half was not good.

“Too little intensity, too little pressure, little fun in our game.

“We were able to change that in the second half.

“I scored goals at the important moments and that’s what it’s all about in the end.

“It wasn’t a feast for the eyes, but that doesn’t really matter to me.

“The most important thing is that we win these kinds of games.

“We could have won the match by a bigger margin if we had finished our chances better.

“But we will get the win and look forward to the next match.

“The match was hard work, but that’s part of it sometimes.

“Then it is important to seize your opportunities… and we did that today.

“At the end of the day, I don’t care if it says ‘Woltemade’ twice on the scoreboard or ‘Sane’ twice… and besides, he gave me some great passes today.

“It is always an honor for me when I can play an important role in this team.”

This is the November 2025 international fixture list for Newcastle United players:

Thursday November 13

Moldova 0 Italy 2

Sandro Tonali played the full match in this World Cup group qualifier and although it took until the 88th minute for the away side to score, they fully deserved the eventual 2-0 win. Tonali, the key figure in midfield, dominated throughout (28 to 3 shots, 13 to 1 corners, 65 to 3 touches by players in the opposition penalty area) but struggled to convert that into goals.

England 2 Serbia 0

A dominant performance from England with a classy Saka strike giving the hosts a half-time lead. Dan Burn watched from the bench as the Three Lions failed to capitalize on their chances until Eze matched Saka with the quality of his finishing in the 90th minute.

Friday November 14

Luxembourg 0 Germany 2

Two high-quality finishes in the second half from Nick Woltemade, the first with his left boot and the second with his right boot, sent Germany to this crucial 2-0 win. They now just need to avoid defeat at home to Slovakia on Monday to automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals.

Great to see Malick Thiaw also enter the field, coming on in the 79th minute as Woltemade played the full match.
