MMA veteran Nick Diaz has called for a world title shot in the UFC against Islam Makhachev or Khamzat Chimaev.
As we know, Nick Diaz is quite a popular figure in mixed martial arts alongside his brother Nate. He’s done some great things over the course of his career, ranging from his pre-UFC days to what he did while in the promotion. Sadly, he hasn’t been around for a while, and when he was around, he wasn’t quite at the same level that many remember him to be.
Nick Diaz will always be fondly regarded as a legend of the game, but at this point in his life and career, every UFC fight will come with plenty of red flags and questions from fans and critics alike. While Dana White may be interested in making this happen in part because of his star power, it also wouldn’t make much sense in the grand scheme of matchmaking.
In one recent interviewNick Diaz had this to say about what he wants next when he returns.
Nick Diaz wants a title shot
“I wish they would just give me a title shot. I would fight Islam or Chimaev. I think I could beat them both. I could lose too, but I could see myself winning those fights. It’s just matchups and fighters. It’s coming in with the right formula and fighting the right fight.”
Given his inactivity and what has been happening in his personal life in recent years, it seems highly unlikely that we will see Nick in a title fight again – at least in the UFC. That said, there are certainly some fun fights to be had if he decides to come back, but of course the priority for most mixed martial arts fans is that he is fit and healthy.
