“I think a lot will depend on the Rangers’ standings and where they are. I think they’re a team that’s had some fits and starts this year, to be honest, I think they’re a team with potential, and I would see them as someone that could go on a run and be one of the three, at least three, playoff teams to come out of the metro. So I’m still optimistic about the Rangers.”
NHL Rumors: Don’t expect a Quinn Hughes trade-up season
But if they’re in a position where they can’t make it, or they’re way out of the picture, there’s a good chance they’ll move Artemi Panarin. I think they are happy with his impact. I think they really enjoyed having him. I don’t think they seem to be on the line nearly as much since the fan base revolves around his contributions to the playoffs and his ability to win with him.
But the fact is that Artemi Panarin wants a term deal. He wants to be paid well. And it’s not like the Rangers are on a fee basis, but there will be restrictions on Chris Drury. I believe in the term that they want to offer Artemi Panarin, and I think he is thinking much more in the short term. I think the Panarin camp is probably thinking much more long-term.
And I don’t know if there’s a long-term marriage, so to speak, based on some of those differences. But then again, it’s December. We still have a lot of time to figure that out.”
