Brayden Schenn brings the intangibles that could yield good returns for the St. Louis Blues
Daily Faceoff’s Tyler Kuehl: Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton talked about the St. Louis Blues and the 34-year-old center Brayden Schenn. He still has a few years left with a $6.5 million cap hit, and the Blues would get a nice return for him if they decide to move him.
Yaremchuk believes the Vegas Golden Knights would be one of the interested teams. Hutton agrees with the Golden Knights, who add that Schenn likely won’t be a top-six center on a contending team but would come in and really improve a third line.
“And what have we seen year after year with NHL teams? Your third line wins or loses you the Stanley Cup.
NHL Rumors: Why Would the St. Louis Blues Want to Trade Robert Thomas?
I’ve heard a lot of GMs talk about this, about adding the edges. Brayden Schenn could be that piece that you add to the lead he comes in with, and he’s going to fight. He will do everything he can to help your team win. I think there is value beyond just point production.”
The Utah Mammoth and Nick Schmaltz will handle contract matters later
The Fourth Period: 29 years old Nick Schmaltz is a pending UFA in the final year of a seven-year, $40.95 million deal. There were rumors this offseason that they were exploring a trade.
Utah Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong said last week that the teams will not discuss extensions as they compete for a playoff spot.
“I just said, ‘Hey, listen, let’s worry about getting to the playoffs with the team, and we’ll take care of the other stuff when the time comes.’ And he was great at that; he’s really focused on getting this team to the playoffs.”
NHL Rumors: Winnipeg Jets and the Utah Mammoth
The Mammoth will look to add leading up to the trade deadline, and they will have $13 million in salary cap space to work with.
