Player profile – others Anania

-Andre Anania is a 23-year-old, 6’1 “, 193 pound, left-shot defender from Richmond Hill, Ontario. He was the 4th round concept-pick (#100 general) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2020 NHL design. He played his junior hockey in the Sudbury Wolves in the Sudbury Wolves Sudbury had 87 points (21g, 66a) and 180 Penaly minutes in Sudbury (2023-24), he achieved a career high 41 points (10g, 31a) and set a franchise record with a plus/min of +49.
Andre was honored with various team prices in 2023-24:
- Players’ Player Award (voted by his teammates for character and effort
- Top defender
- Top plus/minus player
Here are some quotes from different reconnaissance reports about the playing style of Anania:
- Silent, responsible and efficient defender whose effectiveness lies in consistency and positioning instead of flashy plays.
- Excel in the coverage of the man, body contact and fine -dead tasks, which show a willingness to block shots and absorb traffic without hesitation.
- He is very mature and reliable, precisely because he makes the right game so consistent.
After Anania ended his junior career, he signed a two-way (AHL-Eechl) deal with the Charlotte Checkers. He went to the Florida Panthers “NHL Rookie Showcase” a year ago. He spent his Rookie season assigned to Savannah, the Echl branch of Florida/Charlotte. In 51 games he had 11 points (4G, 7a) and 40 criminal minutes. His attack went up by the end of the season. In the last two months of the season he achieved 9 points (4G, 5A) in 17 games. When I asked Martinson about the Rookie season of Anania in Savannah, he told me it is difficult to judge without knowing the system in which he played and with whom he played. Martinson reminded me of what he said many times in the past: if a player has done it before, he can do it again. Remember that in 2023-24 Anania had 41 points in 60 games and +49. No other player in his team was more than +20. His +49 was the fourth best plus/min in the entire Ontario Hockey League.
Anania is a defender who fits well in the playing style of Martinson. He is defensively responsible, can wear the puck, will make a good first pass and will jump into the attacking zone.
Andre is one of the players that Martinson has signed as a depth player for Belleville. The senators are aware of Anania from his OHL career and spoke with him about the opportunity in Belleville if he does well in all. He will follow the training camp at Belleville.
It is always nice to hear a player talking about himself. Here is a young (17) Andre Anania in a video from 2019 Leer You Know You.

| Ted Hosterman |
– It was sad to hear that a good friend and super old All-fan, Ted Hosterman, died on Tuesday evening after a cardiac arrest. It has been a difficult summer for the Hosterman family, such as Ted’s wife, Sharon, died in July.
I always looked forward to meeting Ted at the hockey games to get his thoughts, good and bad, about how the team played and what improvements were needed. I took a few road trips to Tulsa with Ted and some of his hockey friends, and they were always a great time.
Ted has always been a strong proponent of the blog and posted positive comments to combat some of the negative. And he always posted his name to the comment, never anonymous. I checked the last time TED noticed, and it was only two blogs ago, when the new affiliation was announced. It was typically TED, because his comments always felt good about writing the blog: “Barry, the information and insights you share gives us fans and the perspective of insiders who are not available for fans of other teams. Petje for you and coach Martinson for sharing !!!”
Unless you are an old reader of the blog, you will not remember that Ted, together with Mary Betz, wrote the blog for me when I traveled during the hockey season. Ted specialized in interviewing players and doing player profiles. I went back and read the player profiles he did on Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Zack Hall. What great work did he do.
It is always difficult to find the right words to tell how much a friend will be missed. The news of the death of Ted was heartbreaking, but I know he will live on in our hearts, and we will talk about him as long as I stray through the hall of the Cutx Event Center.
The Americans are planning a “moment of loudness” for Ted during the opening evening.
– Steve Martinson will be in all next week and the Americans will set up a Q&A session for seasonal card members at Kelly’s. The Q&A takes place on Monday (September 8) at 3 p.m. If you have attended one of these sessions in the past, you know that they are both informative and entertaining. If you have never attended one, it is an unmissable event. Come load with your questions. If you are too scared to ask your question, give it to me and I will ask you.
The Americans are sending an e -mail somewhere to all seasonal members with this information today. If you do not receive it, call it all American Front Office to ensure that you are on the list.
Did you know: these are my Echl statistics from two days ago. The players on the Allen 2025-26 selection with the most goals since 2019-2020 are Brayden Watts (79) and Spencer Asuchak (78).
Of the Echl players who return for the 2025-26 season, seven of them have scored 100 or more goals since 2019-2020. Here is the list of games that have been played since 2019-20 -20 in brackets:
