The St. Louis Blues could shake up the trade market if they want to be aggressive
Marco D’Amico of RG Media: The St. Louis Blues have a young forward, an aging blueline, and are somewhere between a rebuild and a rebuild. They have adjusted their core as they try to stay relevant, but they can become sellers and shake up the trading market if they want to be aggressive.
“Brayden Schenn could be made available if they continue this way and a lot of teams will be interested, but I wonder about Jordan Kyrou, Colton Parayko and Robert Thomas,” the source speculated. “Are they going to look for an overhaul or possible rebuild? That will cause some buzz, maybe not immediately, but closer to the trade deadline, if the Blues remain a bottom-ranked team in the standings.”

More and more teams are keeping their own players and not letting them enter free agency
Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com: Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell on more teams retaining their own free agents, especially as the number of prospects hitting the open market on July 1 dwindles.
“As far as the lack of player movement in the League, if you look back at the trades this summer, I haven’t counted them, but it’s by far the fewest trades we’ve had in probably 15 years,” Waddell said. “And of course a lot of it has to do with the fact that there aren’t many top players in the market, because the cap goes up and people find a way to keep their own players.
“If you look back over the last five, six years, there have been three or four teams every summer that have had to make moves to get under the cap in the summer. But after Free Agency started this summer, there was no one in jail that had to make moves. So I think in the future, Free Agency won’t be like it used to be.”
