David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Bob Stauffer said the Edmonton Oilers will not lose running back RFA Matthew Savoie to an offer sheet this offseason and that he will sign a bridge deal.
“This is the reality with Matt Savoie. The Oilers will not make the same mistake with Matt Savoie as they did with Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Matt Savoie will be bypassed. He will be represented by Edmonton’s Gerry Johansson. Stan Bowman will pre-empt this. Mark my words. They will make a deal here on an extension with Matt at some point.”
The Oilers shot themselves in the foot during the 2024 offseason when they overspent in free agency and couldn’t match the St. Louis Blues’ offer sheets.

Kiefer Sherwood’s interest remains
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: The Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars have kicked the tires of Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood.
Was told late last week that the Boston Bruins have not had any discussions with the Canucks about Sherwood, although he would make sense for them. There is a Rick Tocchet connection for the Philadelphia Flyers, but they have been told they haven’t spoken, and the Flyers are pretty deep on the wings and there isn’t really any chemistry.
An extension as part of the trade would interest some teams.
