NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabers and the Seattle Kraken

Ideally, the Ottawa Senators could use a center-six winger

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News: As Elliotte Friedman noted, the Ottawa Senators want to “hit a home run” on the trade market. They currently have approximately $1.475 million in cap space, with $5.12 million in projected trade deadline cap space. However, that’s not a lot of space.

The seller’s market may be limited right now, and those teams are in no rush: Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators and the St. Louis Blues. The Senators could ideally use a left winger from the middle. The Sens currently do not have a 2026 first-round pick.

The Buffalo Sabers may not be at $10 million for Alex Tuch just yet

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: As of last week, there was still a significant rift in contract talks between the Buffalo Sabers and incoming UFA Alex Tuch. Don’t believe the Sabers have reached $10 million or more. That’s not to say they won’t go that high at some point. Things are status quo, but neither side is ending talks.

The Seattle Kraken are looking for a top-six forward

The Fourth Period: Last week, David Pagnotta said on a DFO Rundown episode that the Seattle Kraken are looking to make a splash before the trade deadline or next offseason.

“They are at a point where they want to add, they certainly do, but they feel they need to proceed with a little bit of caution because they have a lot of players who are pending unrestricted free agents,” Pagnotta said.

“If this team stays in the playoff race and wants to be part of the wild-card discussion… you want to make sure you stay on the same trajectory this season. And then you want to add.”

The Kraken have pending UFAs with forwards Jaden Schwartz, Jordan Eberle, Mason Marchment and Eeli Tolvanen and defenseman Jamie Oleksiak.

The Kraken showed some interest in St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou during last year’s draft, and the Blues are still listening to calls on him. Kyrou has a full no-trade clause. It is unknown who they are looking at.

NHL Rumors: The Anaheim Ducks will not be forced to trade Pavel Mintyukov

Pagnotta adds that the Kraken are keen to add impact by scoring forwards. Ideally a wing who could play on the first line, at least a top-six.

They now have about $2.13 million in cap space, with more than $34.75 million expected for next season.
