NHL Rumors: The Latest on Rasmus Andersson

NHL Rumors: The Latest on Rasmus Andersson

The Chris Johnston Show: Johnston on Rasmus Andersson who is at the top of his field.

“Well, maybe not a surprise for Anderson, but you know, I think it should be noted that, you know, in the wake of the Quinn Hughes trade, there are a number of teams that didn’t get Quinn Hughes and at least started to cast their minds on, you know what, what could happen with Rasmus Anderson.

And, you know, I don’t feel like there’s anything imminent here with the roster freeze going into effect Friday night, but I do think that the Flames, you know, are probably going to be in some of those discussions early in the new year with or where they’re going with their players.

NHL Network: Elliotte Friedman, when asked about Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson and if there is anything recent. The Flames have a price, but will anyone be able to match it? It was a first and a very good prospect last year when he had the extra year.

Michael Del Zotto: “But I want to ask you about Rasmus Andersson. Another very good defender having a good year with a struggling team. I’m sure a lot of teams would be interested in him. His contract is also up. Are you hearing anything about Rasmus?

Friedman: “I also had to be careful with Rasmus because he told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. Told Eric Francis I didn’t know what I was talking about. It’s funny. A lot of that has happened in the last few weeks. There’s been a lot of stuff like that going around.”

You know what? I’m just thinking with him: I think the Flames have set some kind of price, and they would like to see the price go up. Pierre LeBron said they’ve gotten more calls since Hughes was traded. And I think that’s true.

Rasmus has played very well this year. He’s been very good, but I think the Flames have set some sort of price point. And I know last year when teams were talking to them, they were looking for a first-rounder and a good prospect. That was now with a year and a half left to go, and we’ll see what he’s willing to extend for.

The only thing about Andersson, and he has become irritated. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: he’s a little insecure sometimes. Sometimes he wanted to be traded from Calgary, and sometimes he wanted to stay in Calgary. The other problem here is, let’s just say for the sake of argument, he wanted to stay. I don’t think they’ve even come close to a contract that the two sides agree to.

So I think some of it is in Andersson’s wheelhouse, and some of it is the Flames getting their price, which was last year’s term, a first-round pick and a good prospect.
