In today’s roundup of NHL rumors, is Quinn Hughes open to an extension with the Minnesota Wild? It’s only been one game since he’s been here, but he’s already saying what Wild fans want to hear. Quinn Hughes is open-minded about expanding with Wild

Following this week’s huge trade between the Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks, defenseman Quinn Hughes says he’s open-minded when it comes to signing an extension with the Minnesota Wild. While it’s unlikely these talks will come anywhere close, and he won’t be eligible to sign a new deal until July 1, it may be premature to automatically assume he’ll test free agency.

Hughes spoke to the media after the Wild’s win on Sunday, and all that Michael Russo of The AthleticHughes says he’s “extremely open-minded” about staying here long-term because they have a “great core” close to Michigan, and because Guerin is “unloading” and trading so many assets for him. He said he will always remember that it was the Wild that emerged and not other teams.

Hughes added that he will not soon forget the warm welcome he received from the fans upon his arrival and during the match. Considering there are rumors he’s reluctant to step on Luke Hughes’ toes in New Jersey, the Wild could be a very good fit for Quinn.

Did the Oilers goalies know a trade was coming?

When asked if he was aware the Oilers were about to make a trade and change their goaltending, backup Calvin Pickard told the media, no. After a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, Pickard was asked about the continued hugs between him and Stuart Skinner, and he replied, “We were just messing with everyone.”

When the response was that people seemed surprised to hear that neither of them had any idea anything was going on, Pickard explained the hugs.

“Because after the first (hug) that happened – it took a long time, because I was so angry when I dropped that goal with four seconds left, and we won 9-4 – and then you guys read too much into it. Then we were messing around there after the next two wins. Obviously it doesn’t look like we were messing around with (a trade) happening. But that was the truth.”

Can the Penguins flip Stuart Skinner at the trade deadline?

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, don’t be surprised if there’s talk of the Penguins turning Stuart Skinner before this season’s trade deadline. He noted a recent one episode of Panthers Insider”You have Arturs Silovs, they believe big in Sergei Murashov; I think Stuart Skinner will make another signing here before the deadline if another team is looking for a goalkeeper.”

Connor Bedard Posted on IR

According to to the Chicago Blackhawkssuperstar forward Connor Bedard has been placed on injured reserve. Elliotte Friedman noted in a post update that this is not an LTIR situation; the good news is he could be back as early as Saturday.

While the Blackhawks wait for Bedard to return, they have recalled Ethan Del Mastro and Laurent Brossoit from the AHL Rockford Ice Hogs.
