The MCB Mauritius Legends 2025 delivered a final that was exceptional. After a spectacular comeback and a thrilling final hole, Greg Owen claimed his first title on the Legends Tour at Constance Belle Mare Plage – a victory that was only decided on the final green.

A class of its own on the last day

The Englishman entered the final round with a considerable deficit of eleven shots – and got off to a furious start. Right from the start, Owen played four birdies in a row, which was a clear signal to the competition. Accurate iron shots and a hot putter saw him work his way to the top lane hole by hole. Further birdies on holes 6, 9, 10, 13 and 14 made it seem impossible to catch at times.

But golf remains unpredictable. An unexpected four-putt on the 15th green and a bogey on the 17th opened the door for the chasers. Jeev Milkha Singh consistently took his chances, bringing a total of 17 under par into the clubhouse and putting pressure on Owen. Darren Fichardt also stuck with it and, together with Owen, was just one shot behind on the tee of the 18th.

Both hit the fairway and played strong approaches. Fichardt needed an eagle to secure the win, but his putt narrowly missed the hole. Owen remained calm and played two putts safely to complete the emotional debut victory.

Breakthrough on the Legends Tour

For Greg Owen, the success in Mauritius was a special moment. Since joining the Legends Tour, he had been in the top group several times, but the big hit had eluded him. With the victory in the season finale, he rewarded himself for years of consistency and at the same time catapulted himself into the top 10 of the Order of Merit.

Jeev Milkha Singh and Darren Fichardt convincingly backed the winner, and with a strong season he also secured a place in the top 10 of the annual rankings and the distinction as “Rookie of the Year”. Defending champion Peter Baker finished the tournament in fourth place, while household names such as Michael Campbell, Stephen Gallacher and Andrew Marshall underlined the high-quality field.

Legend Course requires courage and precision

The game was played on the Legend Course, a championship course known for its strategic requirements. Narrow fairways, cleverly placed water hazards and challenging greens make the course a real test, especially on the second nine holes. The last lap in particular showed how quickly the lead can turn around: perfect conditions for a dramatic season finale.

Constance Belle Mare Plage as the perfect host

The Constance Belle Mare Beach reaffirmed its reputation as a premier golf address in the Indian Ocean. The sprawling resort on the east coast of Mauritius combines two renowned golf courses with high-quality hotels, short distances and a relaxed atmosphere. For the Legends Tour, the hotel not only offered ideal playing conditions, but also the right setting for a worthy end to the season.

With Greg Owen’s victory, the MCB Legends 2025 went down in my memory as a tournament that had it all: big names, sporting drama and a venue that more than delivered on the finale of a long season.
