Don Taylor: “What do you think about all this talk about Elias Patterson possibly being moved by the Vancouver Canucks?”

Barry: “Well, I mean, I take it with a grain of salt because when a team doesn’t do well, everyone gets talked about. And when we’ve talked about it in the past, it’s always difficult for us when it’s a player who doesn’t have a move, but that’s the reality: you know where things stand when things don’t go well.”

So you know for us it’s not real unless you know the General Manager calls us and says there’s a real team or a deal and would you consider that? So I, you know nine times out of ten it’s just a rumor.

Taylor: “Is he happy? He says he is. Is he happy on and off the ice in Vancouver, JP?”

Barry: “Yeah, I think he’s happy. I mean, nobody’s happy when they lose. So I mean, he promised to be there and try to make the best of it, and he’s going to do that. And I’m sure there’s going to be all kinds of discussions about every player on that team at the end of this year. So we can’t avoid that.”

Rick Dhaliwal: “JP, when they come to you and say, ‘Hey, do you want to opt out?’ That’s a decision that I think you and Elias will have to think about at some point.

Barry: “Yes, where it becomes problematic is when things in that area become public. For example, people think that the player should automatically renounce whoever he wants.

And the reality is that when you, when you have the leverage to make a no-move, you’re giving up a lot. You know, there’s, you actually buy that for sometimes a million dollars or more.

So the player retains the right to go wherever he wants to go. And it will open up that kind of dialogue, but that hasn’t happened yet. And yes, I mean, obviously it has to be a location that works for both parties.
