The Buffalo Sabers should be buyers, but probably not aggressive buyers
The Chris Johnston Show: Could the Buffalo Sabers be buyers before the trade deadline? They should be buyers, but they should not be aggressive buyers.

Julian McKenzie: “And if the Sabers continue to play well, what about, there should be a world where the Sabers could potentially be a buyer at the deadline, right? Where, for example, they look at the momentum they’ve generated with this team and how the players on the roster have played.”
And if you really want to reward them and give your fans more reason to be excited, as if nothing says so, then add another piece to this team. And maybe it’s a little premature to say since it’s still late January, but I’d like to see this team, when that time comes in March, try to make some kind of pivot to make their team not only better for the future, but for the now.

Johnston: “Well, I think that’s coming. I mean, you know, because there really aren’t that many games left before the trade deadline, even though there is that window of time. And so Buffalo, it’s fair to say, like it’s not even a good bet, they’re either going to be in the playoffs alone or just out of the playoffs on March 6. Unless something crazy happens. If they win 10 in a row or lose 10 in a row, but I’m not sure this one things lie ahead here.
And so I think there’s going to be some pressure or some expectation, maybe more accurately, some way to describe it, you know, to add to the court. To give that, that push, because it’s going to be a real sprint, you know. Especially in the Eastern Conference, where so many teams are bunched in terms of where they are, either in points or in points percentage.
And you know, you come back from the Olympics, and most teams are going to have to, you know, 25 games to get to the house. To find out when the real season starts.
And so, you know, I think Buffalo will be a buyer. I don’t know how aggressive they will be. I mean, those might be some of the details that we’ll get a better idea of as it gets closer.
You know, even the Tuch scenario, where I kind of low-key say, maybe they have to make a decision about trading him. To me that wouldn’t be the same as dumping a player. Like you’re making that trade to get something in return that helps you, right? As it is, it would just be about managing the property.
You know, right now there is no empire. I see the Sabers as sellers, and if anything they will be small B buyers, and maybe even something bigger than that. I mean, you know, I’ve pointed this out before, but I really think we need to look at the track record of these GMs and highlight that Jarmo Kekalainenand has made many difficult decisions in his career, and has never hesitated to take a big step.

And you know, I think he understands what’s on the table here, both for the Sabers and for anyone else. And if he starts in this job, I don’t think he’ll step into it on his toes. I think this, you know, this, this Doan contract is kind of a separate piece, but I think it’s a sign of, you know, being very goal-oriented, of what’s needed, what needs to be done, and just going ahead and getting it done.
