Flame nation: Darren Dreger, when asked about the Calgary Flames forward Blake Coleman.
Host: “What does Blake’s market look like, and do you see a triage of wingers, or is he at the top of the checking winners list?
Dreger: “Yes, he would definitely be at the top, if not at the top, for sure. And I think the reflection on that would be the expected return. Whatever that is, it will be a significant addition for Calgary if they make that trade.”
Someone close to Coleman said last night: “I’m not sure. We haven’t heard much.’
He’s just a good all-around guy. As we know he would like to stay, but if it’s in the best interest of the Calgary Flames to trade him, he’s one of those guys who says, ‘Yes, trade me. I’m happy to help you. “I hope it’s a team that’s in the playoffs and I have a chance to keep playing and win, but that’s up to you guys.”
And that’s not just the good guy, part of him. Again, you know that selection better than I do. If you’re already bringing in young players next year and building a younger core, don’t you really need good, competitive guys to teach these young players what it’s like to be a good Pro and be a good Pro.
