Could Dougie Hamilton and New Jersey terminate his contract this season?

Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos: New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton has two years left on his deal with a $9 million cap hit. The 32-year-old is due a $7.4 million bonus on July 1. After the signing bonus is paid, he is only owed $6.25 million in actual dollars.

Would the Devils retain any salary if he is dealt with now? What if Hamilton could get the Devils to honor his $7.4 million bonus and then terminate his contract if they can’t trade him before July 1? He would be UFA and the Devils would be $9 million off the books.

How serious was Rasmus Andersson during extension talks with the Boston Bruins?

Daily confrontation: David Pagnotta was on Daily Faceoff Insider Notebook talking about the Rasmus Andersson, and how the Vegas Golden Knights were his favored destination and some are wondering how serious he was about an extension with the Boston Bruins.

NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils want to make meaningful Dougie Hamilton trade

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Pagnotta: “It’s an interesting storyline. The way this all came about, because Boston obviously wanted this to happen, but they wanted the extension to happen. And it seemed like I was talking to a few people, and maybe there’s a little bit of bitterness that this didn’t happen, but talking to a few people in Boston, talking to a few people around the league, they’re not sure how genuine his interest in discussing an extension really was.

Once again, Vegas was his favorite destination, and he ends up going there. And the belief is that he will eventually resolve this entire situation for Noah Hanif, signing an extension shortly thereafter.

Maybe this will be postponed a bit. But you know, Vegas just didn’t want to mess around in terms of their package.

I think it was a solid return for the guy. You may get two first-round picks here. If not, it’s a first-round pick, a second. They’ve got Zach Whitecloud in there.

But overall, Vegas isn’t surprised. And again, the expectation is that he’ll be back there eventually, even though he did call Craig Conroy, or at least his agent on Sunday morning, to say, “Hey, look, we’re not going down the extension route with anyone right now.”

The Vancouver Canucks need to rebuild the right way

And it basically just pushed Boston out. And they have to, they have to focus in a different direction.
