The Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins are each giving up a home game to play in this year’s Global Series.
The Penguins have started the season well and find themselves in a playoff spot 17 games into the season, where they sit third in the Metropolitan Division with a 9-5-3 (21 points) record.
Meanwhile, the Predators are eighth in the Western Conference Wild Card race with a record of 5-8-4 (14 points) from their 17 games.
The Penguins are led in points by their veteran center Evgeni Malkinwho has 21 points (3 goals, 18 assists) in 17 games. Captain Sidney Crosby is their top scorer with 11 goals (11-9-20).
Nashville now has Swedish natives Filip Forsberg as their top scorer and points getter (7-6-13 from 17 matches).
Forsberg, teammate Adam Wilsby and Erik Karlsson, Filip Hallander and Rickard Rakell of the Penguins are the Swedes on the two teams. But Rakell will miss the trip as he is on injured reserve, while Hallender will travel but not play as he also suffers an injury.
Stockholm is the city outside the US and Canada that hosts the most regular season NHL games, with this year’s series marking the 17th and 18th games played in the city.
