Newly released Dodgers pitcher signs with KBO team

Former Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer has gone abroad and joined a team in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Sauer signed with the KT Wiz of the KBO, the team announced on Thursday. The Dodgers released the 26-year-old on Tuesday, a day after the team celebrated back-to-back World Series championships.

The right-hander made ten Major League appearances for the Dodgers in 2025. He was on the team’s Opening Day roster, but did not play in either of the Dodgers’ two games against the Chicago Cubs at the Tokyo Dome.

Sauer returned to Triple-A after the team’s trip abroad, but was called up early in the season due to numerous injuries to the pitching staff.

Sauer had a 6.37 ERA in the big league this season with 24 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.449. He made one start for the Dodgers and recorded one save in 2025. In Triple-A Oklahoma City, Sauer made 18 appearances (17 starts), posting a 5.86 ERA in 83 innings.

Sauer was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft. The right-hander was then selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 2023 Rule 5 draft.

Instead of signing a minor league deal with another organization this offseason, Sauer will return overseas to play for the KT Wiz. The right-hander will earn $900,000 next season, including a $200,000 signing bonus.

As the Dodgers look ahead to 2026, the front office has already had a busy offseason.
