I can’t argue with the result, Leeds 0 Newcastle 0, it was what it was.
A surface steeped by the rain did not help Eddie Howe’s side, but it was certainly not the only factor that counted against the visitors.
Leeds United is what they are, a promoted team that, like so many others who stand up, seriously come out of the quality of quality.
So they were determined today not to be defeated as their top priority, little surprise after the last week had seen five goals on Arsenal and an embarrassing defeat at Crisis Club Sheffield Wednesday.
Both Newcastle United fans and neutrals wanted to claim that on Monday evening too much from the Eddie Howe team had been taken.
I think it was more that different circumstances had removed these players from the availability for Eddie Howe.
If two (or more) of these four were available, I think Newcastle United would certainly have won:
Anthony Gordon – suspended
Joelinton – Wounded
Nick Woltemade – not signed on time to play
Alexander Isak – Missing in Action
It was no surprise that Newcastle United looked very good in defense and comfortable in the defensive midfield. Our players were available.
However, you simply cannot do with so many quality players on the other side of the field, those who give NUFC their attacking platform and threat.
I don’t think there was a lot wrong with what Eddie Howe did while he juggled with his available sources.
Sven Botman is one of our best players and trippier and Tino are very good wingbacks. Use your best sources.
With Eddie Howe who held Elanga and Barnes back as bench threats to win the game in the later stages, it became even more clear that we would have difficulty creating the necessary opportunities, to apply the necessary finish …
When you add a rotten picky referee who was determined to stop the game and saw an error every time Osula went close to the ball. No wonder this was a aimless draw all day … and all night.
