Looking at these Premier League games on Saturday, in this round.
Watch the other matches from Newcastle United’s perspective.
Eddie Howe and his players don’t play until 2 p.m. on Sunday, away at Wolves.
That’s one of three games in the Premier League tomorrow.
But now on Saturday, as a Newcastle United fan, take a look at today’s seven Premier League games and think about what you would like to happen and what is most likely in terms of results.
But let’s take a quick look at the table before any of these Premier League matches are played this weekend.
Premier League table on Saturday morning January 17, 2026
As you can see, Wolves are bottom in the entire Premier League table, with 25 points and 14 places behind Newcastle United.
My conclusions and predictions for Saturday’s matches
Man U v Man City (12.30)
In their last nine games in all competitions since November, Man U have won just two games. Away from Wolves’ low point and as they dropped 1-0 on aggregate against United, Man U barely got out of their half after the break and somehow Eddie Howe’s side failed to capitalize.
Man City have lost just three of their last 29 games in all competitions and will not lose again.
They are no longer the irresistible force they were a few years ago, but as the years pass and no punishment has been announced for breaking some or all of the rules for their 115 charges, Man City continue to spend money on transfer fees and wages for fun. Semenyo the latest and Guehi will now follow.
Man U have fully managed to draw level with Newcastle at this stage and will once again finish in the bottom half of the table this season.
Realistically, I think Manchester City will almost certainly finish above Newcastle United and so if they hammer Man U this afternoon that will be for the best.
Chelsea v Brentford (3 p.m.)
Eighth versus fifth in the battle to become West London’s top dogs this season.
Brentford have taken 13 points from the last possible 15 and won four games, Chelsea have not won any of the last five and only taken three points. Chelsea have won just one of their last nine games.
During this period, Chelsea’s owners have responded as they always have: a huge reward when they sacked their manager and plans to pay out even more fortunes on further signings this month, while their new puppet, who has no say in anything other than the team’s choice, is someone they signed from another team they own. Yet the media that continues so slavishly is a new, brilliant dawn for the disgusting Chelsea couple.
Despite the form of the two teams and the absolute mess at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea still have a chance to win today. You would be certifiable if you supported them today against all odds.
Keith Andrews is doing a great job and a win today, combined with Liverpool not winning, would see Brentford move into the top four.
I wouldn’t bet on that, but my money is on Brentford getting at least a draw.
Leeds v Fulham (3 p.m.)
Two form teams that don’t lose many games these days.
Leeds have lost just one of their last nine games in all competitions and that was against Newcastle United.
Fulham have lost just one of their last eight games in all competitions and that was against Newcastle United.
Fulham are just one point behind Newcastle, while Leeds are ten points behind NUFC. So we don’t want an away win at Elland Road, because Fulham would rise above Newcastle.
I think this seems like a tie.
Liverpool v Burnley (3 p.m.)
Liverpool are yet to win a Premier League game in 2026 and their last home game was a 0-0 draw against Leeds when they were lucky to even get a point. Slot’s team have also won just five of their last 16 Premier League games, losing six and drawing five.
Burnley are showing signs of life and in their last six games in all competitions they have lost just twice, at home to Newcastle and away to Brighton. They have drawn against the likes of Bournemouth, Man U and Everton.
No doubt all pundits will see this as an easy win for Liverpool, but the form lines don’t indicate that. Liverpool are struggling at both ends of the pitch despite huge investment in the squad.
I’ll be cheering on the visitors at Anfield (as always!) and I wouldn’t be surprised if Burnley get a point. While a defeat for Liverpool would see Newcastle United rise above the scousers…
Sunderland v Crystal Palace (3pm)
Sunderland have won just two of their last twelve Premier League matches in a twelve-week run; they haven’t won any of their last five. The Mackems are also easily the lowest goalscorers of any Premier League club, with just 23 goals in all competitions so far this season. Sunderland have scored just two goals in their last five PL games.
The clowns who own Crystal Palace have done everything they can to undermine the excellent Oliver Glasner and Marc Guehi will not be involved today as he heads to Man City.
Nevertheless, while a much-changed Palace side managed to lose to Macclesfield in the FA Cup, they have steadied the ship in the Premier League. In 2026, Crystal Palace only lost to Newcastle in the Premier League, while drawing against form sides Fulham and Villa.
Macclesfield may have beaten a makeshift Crystal Palace team, but I can’t see Sunderland beating their first-choice team. Most likely a draw, but no surprise if Palace win this.
Tottenham vs West Ham (3 p.m.)
West Ham look like relegation certains, with no wins in their last ten Premier League matches and five losses in their most recent six. Although they did get something of a boost when they won (after extra time!) at home against QPR in the FA Cup.
If they are to have any chance of avoiding defeat, the Hammers will likely need to beat the equally dastardly Spurs, who are just four places above them despite spending hugely on their squad.
Tottenham have won just two of their last 12 Premier League matches and that includes just one of their last six.
Spurs also have the chance to win today, but I wouldn’t risk a cent on a team and club with so little character. Any result is possible here and if West Ham’s small number of good quality players, especially Bowen, produce a bit of magic then they could win. If pressed, I would have to predict a draw and a match of very little quality.
Bos vs Arsenal (5.30pm)
Any new manager bounce is long gone as Forest fans experience life under Sean Dyche’s brand of football.
Forest lost in the FA Cup at Wrexham and have also lost five of their last seven PL games.
It’s no surprise that the only two exceptions were against the aforementioned dastardly Spurs and West Ham. An 89th minute penalty against West Ham saw them win, after four PL defeats in a row.
Arsenal have won 26 of their 32 games (all competitions) this season and lost just two.
Forest have won just two PL games at home since the opening day of the season and they won’t win again, another win for the Gunners today.
