Newcastle 1 Barcelona 2 – Match reviews and comments about all Newcastle United players

We asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match reviews and comments from players after Newcastle 1 Barcelona 2.

A difficult – in every sense of the word – night for Newcastle United.

We were defeated by one of Europe’s elite teams. We were not surpassed, just defeated by the better side.

We were not at our best, but we played well.

In the first quarter of an hour we had Barca on the ropes and we had had one of our chances, the night could have turned out to be different.

But Barcelona went back to the game, and although they never hit the heights, they looked like what they are Champions of Spain and Champions League Semi-Finalists a few months ago.

Time and again they have us unumanized and kept the ball very well. They are a top, top. We had to work exceptionally hard throughout the field to keep track of them. But for many of the game we did that.

Their two goals – the first in particular – were defensible, and we have plucked some good chances, but I will not be too hard for one of the players. They all use a shift, we scored a great goal, but in the final analysis, Barca was just a little better than we were

Nick Pope – 7

I didn’t do much wrong; In fact, he didn’t have much to do.

It was not as if Barcelona once besieged our goal. He couldn’t do much about the goals of Rashford, the second of which was a world -class strike.

Kieran Trippier – 6

Was made to work extremely hard and fairly well acquitted.

Won a few fights, lost a few. Towards the end. I am not surprised.

Fabian Schar – 6

He did pretty well until he took a Rashford piled river in the face.

Saying afterwards says that he should have been immersed immediately, because he still looked dazed when Rashford first came Barca’s first. But before that he was competitive.

And burn – 6

Another one who had to and concentrate all night – and concentrate. He will be broken this morning.

A few good blocks, a few fleshy tackles and some hurried clearance. One helped to set up Rashford’s second.

Tino Livramento – 6

A tough night for Tino, not least because he took a few large MEPS from Barca.

Tryed his best – as always – but never looked completely at ease.

Bruno Guimaraes – 6

I don’t know if it was because he tried too hard, or because he was confronted with opposition of world class, but he had a bad night according to his high standards.

Too many loose steps and too many occasions where he lived near the ball and was expropriated.

Sandro Tonali – 7

The choice of our midfield – diligently in attack and defense, but even his efforts had no influence on the game.

Joelinton – 6

A few good moments, but was not his usual dominant presence. Did it do well, but not anymore.

Anthony Elangi – 8

An encouraging display.

A few times past his husband and was the only player in black -white who was worried about Barcelona.

If his colleagues had finished a few chances he created, the night may have turned out to be different.

Anthony Gordon – 6

I got virtually no change in the defense of Barcelona and there were times when the negative body language returned.

Took an absolute air shot when we were at the top in the first half, but persisted, and gave us hope with a goal at 90 minutes.

Harvey Barnes – 5

Tried his best, but it wasn’t good enough.

A few minutes after Gordon missed his, failed with a very good occasion and I think his self -confidence fell afterwards. Not his night.

Subs:

Joe Willock – 6

I said on Saturday that I liked his cameo and I thought he was doing well again last night.

Sometimes his husband tried to beat too often, but looked fresh.

He may be worth a start on Sunday if we have many tired legs.

Nick Woltemade – 5

Had half an hour to influence things, but Barcelona took his presence in their pass.

A nice touch in the structure of our goal but kept under control.

Malick Thiaw – 6

I liked what I saw.

A few nice details, not afraid to get ahead, and a little more pace than most of our other center backs.

Jacob Murphy – 6

Playing with an Achilles injury, apparently, so fair play to want to play.

Did it do pretty well as a part of a back five and placed the ball on a plate for Gordon with a perfect pass.

Sven Botman – 6

Looked quite comfortable – the damage was caused by the time he entered the fight, but he looked quite comfortable. I think he is ready to start for us.
