The Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand says that his country will not recognize Palestinian State at the moment, but will continue to work for a two-state solution.
“With a war furious, Hamas remained the de facto government of Gaza, and no clarity about the following steps, there are too many questions about the future state of Palestine to be careful for New -Zeeland to announce recognition at the moment,” said Winston Peters in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
“We are also worried that a focus on recognition in current circumstances can make efforts more difficult to protect a cease -the fire by pushing Israel and Hamas into even more inexpensive positions.”
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in Auckland said on Saturday that “recognition of the Palestinian state is a matter of when, not if”.
The position of New -Zeeland is out of pass with traditional partners Australia, Canada and Groot -Britain, all recognized the Palestinian state on Sunday.
The relocation coordinated them with more than 140 other countries that also support the Palestinians’ striving to forge an independent home country from the occupied territories.
A hand -out of the New Zealand government on Friday said it hoped to recognize a Palestinian state at a time when the situation on the spot offers greater prospects for peace and negotiations than now.
The opposit Labor Party of Nieuw -Zeeland criticized the decision and said it would put the country on the wrong side of history.
Spokesperson Peeni Henare van Labor, Peeni Henare, said that Nieuw -Zeeland will be abandoned by the government today.
“There is no two-state solution or permanent peace in the Middle East without recognition of Palestine as state,” Henare said.
