Coffee drinking has been studied for decades, because researchers sought to answer one burning question: is it good for you? Or is it better to hold on to joyless drinks, such as, do you know, tap water and mint tea? Although there have been cases for just about every argument, A recently published Study in the Journal of Nutrition has just added a check in the “healthy” column.
Of course there is a catch. You have to drink your coffee in a specific way.
For the study, researchers from Tufts University analyzed the coffee breaking habits of 46,332 Americans from 1999 to 2018. They discovered that drinking a cup of coffee has a number of major effects every day in terms of reducing the mortality rates.
A cup of Joe per day was linked to a 16% lower risk of death, not only related to cardiovascular disease, which is well documented, but for whatever reason. More coffee is also better – but not too much. Drinking two to three cups a day showed a 17% lower risk of death. More coffee than that offered no extra health benefits.
However, these benefits did not apply to all coffee drinkers across the board. The benefits were most pronounced with those who drank them without cream and sugar (or with a very little amount of sugar). Those who have added cream and sugar had the same percentages of death due to all the causes as those who tended in the direction of non-refection drinks. In essence, the more cream and sugar added, the lower the benefits.
“Coffee is one of the most connected drinks in the world, and with almost half of American adults who report that they drink at least one cup a day, it is important for us to know what it can mean for health,” ” said fang fang zhangSenior author of the study and professor to Tufts. “The health benefits of coffee can be due to its bioactive connections, but our results suggest that the addition of sugar and saturated fat can reduce mortality benefits.”
Since there is so much research into coffee, we always have to make findings with a grain of salt (and without sweetener), but the good news seems to be right for ordinary coffee drinkers. A study earlier this year found in the same way a lower rates of early death for morning coffee drinkers.
