Announcing this late in the evening after the Cabinet meeting, Telangana Minister for Labour, Employment, Training and Factories G. Vivek Venkataswamy said the bill will be introduced in the upcoming session of the Assembly.
The bill proposes a board, consisting of representatives of stakeholders, to discuss and make decisions. “The companies will have to depute an official each. They can also identify the problems they are facing,” he said.
Mandatory registration
All gig and platform workers are required to register their names with the board. It also proposes setting up a welfare fund and a complaints handling framework.

Founder and President of Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU), Shaik Salauddin, has welcomed the Cabinet decision to approve the bill.
He said it is a transformative initiative and the union would work with the government to ensure effective implementation for all gig and platform workers.
