New Sports Group takes over two MiLB clubs

Following similar news yesterday, another new sports group announced it had acquired two MiLB teams. OnDeck Partners bought Montgomery Biscuits and Visalia Rawhide.

In fact, the group is so new, there is no logo online if you google logos. The sports group OnDeck Partners was founded by the Avenue Sports Fund and made a splash by acquiring the 2007 and 2008 Southern League champion Montgomery Biscuits (AA, Tampa Bay Rays) and the 1971, 1978 and 2019 California League champion Visalia Rawhide (Single-A, Arizona Diamondbacks).

These acquisitions mark the first step in OnDeck’s long-term vision to invest in fun, affordable entertainment while improving the fan experience with the goal of deepening the connection between local communities and the game.

Mike Carney, CEO of OnDeck Partners said, “As OnDeck Partners begins its journey, we see incredible opportunities to create unforgettable fan experiences and enhance in-stadium offerings, resulting in stronger connections between local communities and the game. The Biscuits and the Rawhide have both long been pillars of community spirit and entertainment. Our goal is to enhance these hometown team experiences and ensure our ballparks remain places where communities gather, celebrate and create lasting memories together.”

The OnDeck group strives to strengthen the traditions fans love while introducing forward-thinking innovations in game day and entertainment, fan experience and community engagement by uniting these two baseball clubs.

The Montgomery Biscuits were founded in 2004 when the Orlando Rays moved to the Alabama capital. The Visalia Rawhide have a long history in California’s Central Valley, as they were founded in 1946 as the Visalia Cubs. Over the years they have adopted the names of their parent clubs many times, but in 1977 they first adopted the name Visalia Oaks. After a brief stint as the Central Valley Rockies (1993–1994), the club returned to the Oaks name until 2009, when the club changed its current name.
