Former Germany -boss Joachim Low thought that Xabi Alonso Real Madrid made the favorites to sign Florian Wirtz when he chose to leave Bayer Leverkusen – but Liverpool is the team that leads the race for his signature.

The German playmaker is strongly connected to the starting door in the Bayara as a number of Europe’s largest club circle. Originally, Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich all expressed their interest – before Pep Guardiola’s side withdrew.

Wirtz seems to have decided that he would rather move to Anfield in contrast to the Allianz Arena with the Reds who have already rejected several bids. Real was then credited with an interest in the player – in the midst of reports they could hijack his move to Anfield.

Their focus was on landing a new manager and Los Blancos has appointed Alonso, their former player, as their newest boss. But despite his relationship with Wirtz, Liverpool remains on the edge of his transfer.

The ex-German head coach told Child: “I just thought he would choose a Madrid if he went abroad. He developed huge under him [Alonso] And they have a great relationship of trust. That is very important for a young player.

“Nevertheless, I am not worried that Wirtz will prevail where he would have left. He plays with a naturalness that cannot be coached. He has all the skills that a football player needs to be a world-class player.”

Wirtz and Alonso were two of the leading figure when Leverkusen surprised the German establishment by winning the Bundesliga last season. They also claimed the German cup with their playmaker who scored 34 times in the past two seasons, but the Black and Reds have seen some of their most important names leave this summer – Jeremie Frimpong including.

Low claimed that a switch to Bayern “would have been a good fit” for Wirtz, but the Bavarians don’t look like fighting for the 22-year-old liverpool to chase him if they finally have a price with Leverkusen, who hold £ 126 million before they agree with his exit.

The former German boss claimed: “Liverpool is a real explanation because moving to the Premier League also means a lot of adjustment and that starts with the rhythm of the game, but Florian Wirtz has no upper limit, he is absolutely ready for the next step. We have had that feeling for a long time.”

Ex-Livepool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann praised Wirtz to hold his decision to become a member of the Premier League champions, despite interest from elsewhere.

“Florian Wirtz has made a decision. I believe it is the right one,” Hamann told Sky Sports Germany.

“It really happens in Liverpool under Arne Slot. They will sign or want to sign, two or three other players, of what I hear. That’s why I think Wirtz has made a very good decision.”
