Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has paid tribute to the former Wrexham defender Joey Jones after his death at the age of 70.
The Left Back Jones born in Llandudno made 479 performances for the Red Dragons about three spells with the club.
That was his affinity with the club and the area, Jones was lovingly known as ‘MR Wrexham’ by everyone who was associated with the team.
Hollywood A-Lister Reynolds went to Instagram on Tuesday evening and posted a photo of himself and fellow owner Rob Mcelhenney next to Jones to send a moving message.
“I am really happy that I had to spend time with you,” wrote Reynolds, who completed his takeover of the club with Mcelhenney in 2021.
“Thanks for the stories. Compassion for his family, friends and Mickey (Thomas, Jones’ good friend and former Wrexham teammate). Rest on, Joey. Big second half is coming. ‘

In the aftermath of the death of Jones, Wrexham announced on Tuesday that a statue was taken into use in honor of their legendary player and will be built outside the racing rose ground.
Jones, who was covered by Wales 72 times, started his career at Wrexham in 1973 before moving to Liverpool, where he won two European cups and a competition title two years later.
He returned to play on the racecourse ground between 1978 and 1982 and then ended his career at the club – from 1987 to 1992 – after Stints with Chelsea and Huddersfield.
Jones joined Wrexham in 1971 to Wrexham and in his first enchantment he was part of the side that the Welsh Cup won in 1975.
On Tuesday, Wrexham said that they were ‘destroyed’ after learning the death of a club legend in a statement. In a statement on Tuesday, the Anfield Club expressed their ‘deep sadness’ upon the death of their former star and icon.
“The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with Joey’s family and friends in this sad time,” concluded a heart -warming tribute to Jones on the club’s website.
