Two new schedules, with the common goal of getting more mares in foal, were announced on time for the 2025 breeding season.
The New Zealand Standard Bred Breeders Association (NZSBA) has created a database of mares that are available throughout the country, while the Wai Eyre Farm, established in North Canterbury, has devised a new ‘lease to buy’ program.
NZSBA:
The live table of the NZSBA of all available mares is an interim step before it launches its breeding exchange platform later this month.
It is an easy -to -use guide to see which mares are available and where they are based.

Do you have a mare that you will not breed this year? It is not too late to add her to the list!

The database is automatically updated as new entries are added.

Wai Eyre Farm:
Wai Eyre Farm in combination with DancingonMoonlight Farm and Yabby Dam Farms is again looking for breeding marches.
They want:
Mares for sale
Mares and mares currently racing for sale or lease
Lease mares for us to breed
They have many options, including discounts, to help breeders.
The farm had also announced what it says is an “industry first”.
It will test a lease agreement to buy a program for a select number of mares that it will then breed into a selection of its stallions.
In the first instance there will be no costs.
Fokkers will then have the option to buy the resulting foal at an agreed price, when weaning.
Wai Eyre says that the program removes the inherent risks involved in breeding and breeders will give confidence, knowing that there will be a viable teat at the end of the process.
