If you live in Michigan, you may not be able to use a VPN if a new account is passed on in the law. On 11 September, the Republican representatives of Michigan proposed far -reaching legislation for banning internet content for adults.
The bill, The Anticorruption of the Public Moral Law called And advanced by six Republican representatives, would prohibit a wide range of content for adults online, ranging from ASMR and adult manga to AI content and any representation of transgender people. It also tries to ban all the use of VPNs, foreign or produced by the US.

VPNs, who can simulate internet access of external regions, are often used as solutions to prevent similar prohibitions that have passed in states such as Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as the UK.
But Michigan’s account would charge internet providers for detecting and blocking VPN use, as well as prohibiting the sale of VPNs in the state. Accessible fines would be a maximum of $ 500,000.
What the prohibition could mean for VPNs
Unlike some laws that prohibit access to the content of adults, this Bill Michigan has been expanded. It applies to all residents of Michigan, adults or children, focuses on an extensive range of content and includes language that can not only prohibit VPNs, but also every method to circumvent internet filters or limitations.
This can cause problems for VPN owners and other internet users who use these tools to improve their privacy, to protect their identity online, prevent ISPs from gathering data about them or increasing their device safety when browsing on public Wi-Fi.
The anti -corruption of the Public Morals Act did not accept the Michigan House of Representatives Committee, nor was voted by the Senate of Michigan, and it is not clear how much support the bill currently has that goes beyond the six Republican representatives who have presented this. As we have seen in the past with state legislation, these types of accounts can sometimes serve as templates for other representatives who may want to present similar laws in their own states.
The Michigan ACLU did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
