The Washington Nationals have agreed to a Major League deal with experienced catcher Jorge Alfaro, reports Andrew Golden van de Washington Post. The CAA client played with the Triple-A branch of the Brewers, but yesterday opted for his Minor League contract to become a free agent.
The 32-year-old Alfaro has not appeared in the Majors since 2023. He appeared in 82 games and made 326 record performances at the Brewers’ Nashville branch in 2025 and hit .244/.285/.430 with 15 home runs and a dozen Steals. Alfaro only entered 3.4% of his plate performances with Milwaukee’s Triple-A-Club and also blown on an alarming clip of 36.5%.
Despite those disturbing tariff statistics, Alfaro gets the chance to return to the big competitions with the NATS. Washington has lost both Keibert Ruiz (concussion) and Drew Millas (Fractured finger) to the wounded list in recent weeks. Riley Adams and CJ Stubbs are currently handling in DC in DC
In parts of eight Major League seasons, Alfaro is a .253/.302/.393 Hitter (86 WRC+) up to and including 1710 trips to the plate. At that time he obtained negative framing and blocking figures, but has checked the current game well, as a career has caught 27.5% on stealing.
Alfaro spent most of his main class with the Marlins, who took over him alongside Sixto Sanchez On the trade that JT RealMuto sends on the Rivalal Phillies division. Miami hoped that in Alfaro-a consensus Top-100 prospect they had obtained an answer behind the record at the time of the Swap-a long-term answer. He was indeed three seasons in Miami, but Alfaro’s bat has never fulfilled his prospect invoice and he has since bounced around the competition with a series of Minor League contracts.
There is little time in the current season that Alfaro, which has 5,133 years of Major League service, cannot reach six years before the calendar is finished. As such, he will remain technically seen in 2026 via arbitration in 2026, although, apart from an unexpected productive September, he seems more likely that he will be at the end of the season and again become a Minor League -free agent.
