Bensalem, Pa. – With four horses in the Princess Rooney Stakes on Saturday in Gulfstream Park, trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Mystic Lake To race parx for the $ 150,000 Liberty Bell Stakes. That turned out to be a cautious decision.
Owned by C2 Racing Stables and Stefania Farms, the 4-year-old daughter of Mo Town took the lead in the first 100 Yards and never responded to conquering the 6 1/2-Furlong posts on Betparx Pennsylvania Derby Day.
Jockey Tyler Gaffalione, just behind the confirmed star and Carmelina, brought 6-5 favorite Mystic Lake to the lead by a quarter of miles in: 21.88. He maintained the advantage over Carmelina and Volleyball Princess around the turn, with the rest of the seven-horse field far behind after half a mile in: 44.08. Carmelina, in turn, took her shot before she made faded and volleyball princess a stretch run, but there was no catch of Mystic Lake.
Volleyball Princess was in second place with Bella Queen who was closed from the last to become third.
Mystic Lake, who won in 1: 15.87, collected her fourth listed deployment gain on four tracks in the Liberty Bell. Fourth in the Cotillion Stakes last year Mystic Lake improved to 11-out-20 with $ 1,447,642 in income.
