In the deadline the Rangers would be buyers, they are currently in the middle of the Wild Card Race. The Rangers had to put on the deadline to improve the team. The Rangers needed a poet/high lever bullpar -arm to strengthen the bullpen and a man who locks the 9th inning. Could also use a right -handed bat for when the Rangers faces a left -handed pitcher.
The first move of the deadline for the Rangers was to act for Danny Coulombe of the twins for Garrett Horn. Coulombe was an arm that I want the Rangers to focus, he was one of the names I raised in my article about players we could focus. Coulombe has been very good for the twins this year and will certainly add depth to the bull pen that is very useful. Because a left -handed pitcher Coulombe can throw on both sides and not throw a peloton pitcher. This can take some pressure from Hoby Milner.
The second move was the Rangers who acquire Merrill Kelly for the Diamondbacks in exchange for Kohl Drake (#5), Mitch Bratt (#9) and David Hagaman (#13). Initially I was a bit shocked about how much we gave up Kelly, I was a strong supporter of Kohl Drake and Mitch Bratt. I thought one of the two would be traded, but I didn’t think both would be moved. It hurts to lose those guys, but Kelly will now have an impact and can be very important for this team this season if they make a run in the play -offs. However, I am a big fan of adding Merrill Kelly to the rotation that has been the best rotation in baseball, and it makes it even stronger now. In a Playoff series opposite Jacob Degrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Merrill Kelly are pretty scary in the first three games and nobody will face that. Adding Kelly will also bring some stability to the rotation, Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter have certainly had a good start, but they have always been not consistent. Kelly gives you a good consistency and must penetrate the 3 -place in this amazing start rotation.
The third in the last move for the Rangers happened in the last 10 minutes until the deadline, they acquired Cardinals -Reliever Phil Maton in exchange for Mason Molina (#27), Skylar Hales (#28) and international bonus pole. Maton will swing very nicely in these bull pen. He has been very good for the cardinals this year. Maton will add to the least lever arms that Bochy can turn in a close game, which can be good in a play -off series, so that the team that does not see your face every match.
I think Chris Young has done a good job this year. He had some factors with which he had to work, who limited what he could do, and he did well to work around those factors. He made the best pitching -staff in baseball better and he raised the floor of the bullpen in my opinion. With the addition of Merrill Kelly, he increased the floor of the rotation and made the Rangers a stricter opponent to hit. I would have liked to have added a certain closer, but the lack of talent in the farm system made it difficult for CY to do that. The Rangers were the finalist in the David Bednar Sweepstakes that were won by the New York Yankees. If I judge Chris Young on the deadline, I would give it in the middle of AB and A B+. He improved the best part of the team, the pitching staff. If he was able to land a closer way, I would be a bump, but he was unable to beat the Yankees for David Bednar. Some fans may wonder why we did not land bat and I fully understand why. This team has not reached its expectations at all, but let’s not forget that this line is pretty similar to the one who brought the Rangers their first World Series title and was wearing it. This attack already has the talent in the world to be one of the best violations in the game, and if they touch their potential that can be really scary to face the way they have thrown this season in the late season. This team can certainly get hot and go on a deep run as they are currently built. Chris Young had a successful trade theadline in my eyes.
