Murder accused says that alleged confessions were ‘ad *** heads’

A agricultural worker who was accused of killing a man in the west of NSW, told a jury more than two years ago that he was “just ad *** head” when he confessed the crime.

Clinton Wrigley, 40, is not guilty of killing the 58-year-old Joel Carter on the national ownership of Mr Carter, near Nyngan, in January 2023.

The jury heard that a post-mortem revealed that Mr Carter had died of a considerable head trauma, probably two days before his body was found on a metal fresh bed in an advanced state of decomposition.

During her concluding speech on Tuesday, Kroonaanjakschap Michelle Swift told the jury that Mr. Wigley people had known on three different occasions.

In a recording that was played at the court, Mr. Wrigley told a colleague that he “did not sleep” during the death of Mr Carter, and the victim “earned it”.

“They can look for everything I have, I burned it all, even my f ** king boots burned,” Mr. Wigley is recorded.

But Mr. Wigley, who gave proof on Monday, told the jury that the alleged confessions were him, simply “add *** head”.

The persecution told the jury that the weapon used to kill Mr Carter was unknown, but Mr. Wrigley told someone later that he had used a rubber hammer, which he then destroyed when the Ute of Mr Carter.

Mrs. Swift said that the accused revealed a motive for the alleged murder during a recorded conversation, in which he said that the “most important thing that did” Mr Carter was his abuse of his sister -in -law.

Defense lawyer Nicholas Broadbent doubted the reliability of some witnesses and described one as “most impressive”.

He also told the court that there was another person in the community, who cannot be mentioned for legal reasons, with “countless reasons to be frustrated by Joel Carter”.

When he was asked about his movements at the time of Mr Carter’s death, Mr. Wrigley told the jury that he had slept in his vehicle.

He said he was planning to drive home to Warren, but parked his car near the river in Nyngan to prevent patrol officers from detected his not registered UTE.

The jury heard that he was planning to walk to the hospital to get “a black box” needles to consume drug ice when he met a woman he knew near the train station and sexual intercourse.

The woman gave proof during the process and denied that she saw or slept with Mr. Wrigley in the night in question.

The jury has withdrawn to consider his judgment.
