Muhammad Mokaev was on the cusp of a UFC flyweight title shot after 13 wins to start his professional MMA career. But after a strained relationship with UFC CEO Dana White and the matchmakers during his promotional stint, the UFC opted to part ways with the talented flyweight before he entered a title fight.
Since leaving the UFC, Mokaev has scored three dominant victories in MMA, including a vicious knockout of Gerard Burns at Brave CF 100 to win the promotion’s first flyweight title in November. At the time of writing, Mokaev has not yet been booked for his next Brave CF flyweight title bout in 2026.
Fight fans continue to beg White, Hunter Campbell and Sean Shelby to give Mokaev a second chance in the UFC, possibly against newly crowned titleholder Joshua Van. In the meantime, Mokaev has taken a big step forward to possibly return to the Octagon soon.
Muhammad Mokaev is taking a major step toward a possible UFC reunion
In a recent post on XMokaev announced his return to combat sports under a familiar banner.
“I have been offered to fight Mikey Musumeci for the UFC BJJ title,” Mokaev announced.
Mikey Musumeci is considered by many to be one of the greatest submission grapplers in the world. After a long stint with ONE, Musumeci became the face of UFC BJJ, an upstart wrestling promotion under the Zuffa LLC banner.
Mokaev is 0-2 in submission wrestling, dropping matchups with former UFC flyweight Rogerio Bontorin and Zain Hayat. But Mokaev is considered one of the best wrestlers in modern MMA, as evidenced by wins over Manel Kape, Alex Perez and Tim Elliott.
While it remains to be seen if the UFC and Mokaev will reunite, the flyweight’s upcoming UFC BJJ matchup could go a long way in dictating his MMA future.
