The motorcyclist killed Tuesday evening in a crash that closed lanes on Interstate 75 in Weston has been identified as a retired Miami Beach police officer.
The crash happened after 7 p.m. on I-75 south at Exit 15 at Royal Palm/Arvida Parkway.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Volkswagen Jetta and an Indian Challenger motorcycle were traveling south next to each other. At some point, the left rear of the Jetta collided with the right front of the motorcycle.
After the crash, the motorcycle overturned and the driver became “separated” from the motorcycle, authorities said. He was then hit by another car.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, FHP said.
On Wednesday, the victim was identified by Miami Beach police as Kenneth “Kenny” MacLeod, a retired officer and active reserve officer.
“Kenny honorably served our department from October 1990 to March 2020 and continued his deployment as a reserve officer beginning in April 2020,” police said in a post on X.
The other two vehicles stopped after the collision. The drivers were not injured and it is unclear if anyone will be charged.
Four lanes were closed for the investigation and the scene was cleared after midnight. according to the Florida Department of Transportation’s traffic website.
Video from the scene showed a yellow tarp in the far left lanes and a motorcycle that ended up on its side.
The investigation continues.
