The majority of the illegal taxi operators use rented vehicles to prevent their own seizure from being confiscated, has Azrin Borhan, director of Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) New Straits Times report.
At least 75% of the drivers who held Selangor JPJ this year used vehicles that were not registered for themselves, and this trend was mainly observed at illegal taxi operators at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Azrin said.
“To date, we have taken action against 143 illegal taxi operators at both airport terminals and fines issued in the amount of RM419.200. We have also forfeited the ownership of one vehicle,” he told the English-language daily, and added that 108 of the 143 used or lined cars.
“The forfeit statement is granted to disconnecting the magistrate, but we will certainly recommend that strict action will be taken to curb these activities. These activities are illegal and dangerous. We do not know how well the vehicles used are maintained or if they have a valid traffic tax and insurance. If there is an accident, how are they responsible?” Said Azrin.

“We will take steps to forfeit the ownership of these vehicles, regardless of who they belong,” he added and advised car owners to not let their vehicles be abused by irresponsible people.
Selangor JPJ recently arrested a woman in the thirty after a video from a foreign tourist was cheated by a taxi tout in Klia went viral. In the video, posted on September 15, a foreign tourist revealed that the suspect negotiated an RM60 rate when the tourist was looking for a bus to a KL -Hotel.
On arrival, however, the suspect refused to stop and rode to a remote area instead before he demanded an RM836 rate. Nst Says that the suspect will be charged this week.
Taxi prices on Malaysian airports are prohibited, whereby those caught a fine of a maximum of RM50,000, or a maximum prison sentence of five years, or both.
