Moose Weekly Recap: Moose completes six-game homestand with 4-3 shootout win over Chicago
Tuesday, November 25 – Belleville 5, Manitoba 2
The Moose entered Tuesday’s matchup on a six-game win streak, but Belleville ended that streak with a 5-2 win.
The Senators struck three times in the opening frame, with Jamieson Rees opening the scoring before Arthur Kaliyev and Oskar Pettersson extended the lead. Manitoba tried to claw back when Parker Ford scored his first of the season in the second period, and Kale Clague pulled the Moose within one early in the third. Pettersson restored Belleville’s cushion with two goals shortly afterwards, and Jorian Donovan sealed the win with an empty-netter.
Domenic DiVincentiis made 31 saves in the loss as Manitoba dropped their first game in seven games.
Wednesday, November 26 – Manitoba 5, Belleville 1
Manitoba responded well in the second half of the back-to-back, cruising to a 5-1 win.
After a scoreless first period, the Moose erupted for four unanswered goals in the second. Mason Shaw opened the scoring, Jaret Anderson-Dolan doubled the lead, Brad Lambert buried his first of the season on the power play and Samuel Fagemo added his fifth to make it 4-0. Belleville’s Olle Lycksell scored early in the third, but Fagemo answered with his second of the night five minutes later.
Manitoba improved to seven wins in its last eight games. DiVincentiis stopped 22 shots in the win.
Saturday, November 29 – Chicago 4, Manitoba 1
The Moose switched to a two-game weekend set with Chicago and dropped the opener 4-1.
Kale Clague opened the scoring after leaving the penalty area, finishing a breakaway on a stretch pass from Isaak Phillips. Chicago tied the game late in the first on a power-play marker by Bradly Nadeau. After a scoreless second period, the Wolves took control in the third. Nadeau scored his second of the match, Felix Unger Sorum made it 3-1 late and Nikita Pavlychev added an empty-netter. DiVincentiis finished with 26 saves.
The loss was Manitoba’s second in three games.
Sunday, November 30 – Manitoba 4, Chicago 3 (SO)
Manitoba closed out the homestand in dramatic fashion, earning a 4-3 shootout victory to split the weekend series.
Brayden Yager opened the scoring with his third of the season, giving Manitoba a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes. Chicago answered with goals from Unger Sorum and Ryan Suzuki, with Suzuki’s goal coming on the power play with less than two seconds left in the middle frame.
Phil Di Giuseppe tied the game midway through the third, and Nikita Chibrikov shined with a smooth finish to give the Moose a 3-2 lead late. However, Pavlychev tied the game with 2:05 remaining, beating Isaac Poulter for his sixth of the season.
Overtime didn’t solve anything, turning the match into a shootout. The Moose were perfect, going 3-for-3 with goals from Chibrikov, Yager and Danny Zhilkin, who scored the winner. Winnipegger Isaac Poulter made 28 saves in his Moose debut. With the win, Manitoba improved to 11-8-2.
The Moose now hit the road for a three-game road trip, starting with a third straight meeting with the Wolves on Wednesday.
