Fateh, 35, was chosen in the Senate of the state of Minnesota in 2020 and became the first Somali American and the first Muslim to serve.

The Minneapolis DFL party (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) has approved the Senator Omar FateH to be the next mayor of Minneapolis.

On XFateh said that he is incredibly worshiped to be the DFL approved candidate for Minneapolis Mayor. This approval is a message that residents of Minneapolis are ready with broken promises, vetos and politics as usual. It is a mandate to build a city that works for all of us. “

Fateh, 35, was chosen in 2020 in the Senate of the state of Minnesota and became the first Somali American and the first Muslim to serve there. He is an American of the first generation and husband who is looking for mayor to “reach the lively, loving city that we know that Minneapolis can be.”

“It is becoming more difficult for working people to build our lives in Minneapolis,” he said His campaign website. “With Donald Trump who returns to the Oval Office, everything we have worked so hard to create is in danger. It is not enough to simply stand up against Donald Trump. It is time to push back with progressive leadership.”

Fateh criticizes the current mayor of Minneapolis

Fateh said that the current mayor Jacob Frey did not realize his promises to end homelessness by 2022. He added that Frey did not have failed to deliver a vision of public safety since the death of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

“He Vetoes every solution that comes to his desk,” Fateh said on his site. “It’s time for a mayor who has real solutions that put the residents of Minneapolis first.”

Fateh won the approval of the Minnesota DFL on the party’s convention and defeated four other candidates, including Frey. The convention had to take place at North High School, but was moved to Target Center, where the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves play, to accommodate the 800 delegates and 800 alternatives.

The Frey campaign plans to appeal the results to the DFL party at state level, a spokesperson told Axios.

“This election must be determined by the entire city instead of the small group of people who became delegates, in particular in the light of the extremely defective and irregular behavior of this treaty,” Frey said in a statement. “Voters will now have a clear choice between the data and the leadership of Senator Fateh and Mayor Frey. We look forward to bringing our vision to voters in November.”

Fateh is the second democratic socialist who makes a splash. Zohran Mamdani, the state-assembled state assembly from New York City, won the Mayoral nomination of the Democratic Party this summer.
