British number two Cameron Norrie is open from the Canadian open after a surprising defeat of the second round by World Number 99 Aleksandar Vukic.
The 29-year-old suffered a 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 loss for the Australian.
Norrie, now arranged 39 after his run to Wimbledon’s quarterfinals at the beginning of July, won a singles title in 2023 for the last time.
While he registered a number of good victories during the grass-court season, he has not taken over that momentum to the hard courts so far, making him quickly 3-0 lower in the opening set against Vukic, 29.
Norrie seemed to struggle with disease and had his blood pressure checked halfway through the second set, but fluid through the game.
However, the failure to take advantage of one of his three breaking points in the decisive set interrupted by the rain eventually cost him against his non-sown opponent.
