- Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track series launched this year in Jamaica
- Fourth and last event would take place at the end of June in Los Angeles
The inaugural season of the new Grand Slam Track series by Michael Johnson was brought to the end after the last stage in Los Angeles was demolished.
Johnson’s new Big-Money Athletics League was launched in April in Kingston, Jamaica, before moving to Miami and Philadelphia last month.
The fourth and final event would be held in LA-the headquarters of the competition and the host city of the 2028 Olympic Games on 28-29 June.
However, Mail Sport understands that organizers have now drawn the plug on the meeting, with reference to problems about the ‘economy of the deal’ with the 11,700 capacity Drake Stadium.
The humiliating movement has expressed concern about the long -term future and the financial sustainability of Grand Slam Track, where athletes compete to win $ 100,000 at every meeting.
But sources close to the series state that it will return in 2026 and that new investors and partners will be announced next week.
Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track series will have no last event in Los Angeles

The series with large money, depicted here in Philadelphia, is supposed to shake athletics
Grand Slam Track claimed to have picked up more than $ 30 million from private investors from the launch, so that the Stars Record price money and lucrative contracts and appearance costs could pay.
Josh Kerr, Matthew Hudson-Smith, Zharnel Hughes and Daryll Neita were the four British who signed up as ‘racers’ to run in all the meetings of the series, which was broadcast in the United Kingdom on TNT-Sport with commentary from Steve Cram.
The goal of American legend Johnson was to get more eyeballs in athletics outside the Olympic Games and world championships and the profile of the sport.
Grand Slam Track, however, immediately found problems on the opening evening in Kingston, when only about 6,000 spectators attended the first session in the 35,000 capacity National Stadium.
The poor turnout resulted in organizers who tried to fill the stands for the remaining two days of the meeting by offering free tickets to school children.
While crowds were better in the two events in America, albeit at smaller locations, the Philadelphia bone was cut from three days to two.
Johnson was planning to address Grand Slam Track athletes in a video call on Thursday, and informed them about the decision to cancel the LA event, while offering guarantees about the future of the competition.
