The next performance of Sean Manaea for the Mets is planned for the Bullpen.
With the team that consolidates the rotation this week, the off-day of Monday will ensure such a maneuver-zal de Lefty Manaaea are available at the Bullpen in a Piggyback role when the Mets open their series against the Padres on Tuesday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.
Clay Holmes is the planned starter for the series opener and Manaea would follow him.
Mendoza, after the 5-2 victory over the Rangers on Sunday, indicated that there is no script for the use of Manaea.
“I think it depends on which line we get and where we are in the game,” said Mendoza. “We must be able to make adjustments and be flexible.”
Although Mendoza has not announced the rest of his rotation for this week, David Peterson and Jonah Tong are able to follow Holmes in the Padres series.
Manaea has been the weak link of the rotation this season.
In general, he was thrown to a 5.76 ERA in 11 performances, 10 of which have started.
In his start last week against the Phillies, he allowed four earned points in the first two innings before he received a Peptalk from Mendoza and turned to pitch the next three scoreless.
Francisco Lindor stole the second base in the first inning to reach 30 stolen bases for the second time in his career (he also completed the performance in 2023).
Lindor’s 116 stolen bases with the Mets are tied up with Lenny Dykstra for the seventh highest total in franchise history.
Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless 10th inning – which was the automatic runner on second base – before the Mets gathered for the victory in the bottom of the frame.
It was a second consecutive scoreless outing for the inconsistent Stanek.
The Mets ended the 24-24 season in Interleague Play.

Francisco Alvarez reached the basis three times to continue his recent strong game.
Alvarez has a .313/.353/.667 Slash line with four gay people and 10 RBIs during its last 16 games.
