The Mercedes-AMG concept AMG GT XX has succeeded in setting a new record for the largest distance ever covered by an electric vehicle (EV) within 24 hours at 5,479 km.
This is only a few days after Xpeng announced that the new P7 has set a distance of 3,961 km, which means that the concept of AMG GT XX broke the previous record with 1,518 km (or 38%). However, it is worth noting that one is a draft vehicle, while the other is a production model that customers can actually buy.
Not satisfied with setting only one record, the Mercedes-AMG team also wanted to drive “all over the world in eight days” to put the biggest pressure on the electric motors and battery of the concept. The target distance is 40,075 km – the circumference of the earth – which was covered with exactly seven days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and seven seconds. Another milestone was also reached when the team continued to reach 40,234 km (25,000 miles) in 7d: 14h: 09m: 52.47S.
At that time, drivers maintained a constant speed of 300 km/h, only stopping to charge at power levels of an average of about 850 kW before they can speed up to 300 km/h. This happened again and again, day and night, for almost eight days.
Mercedes-AMG also wanted to point out that it is now one, but two examples of the concept AMG GT XX. Both EVs left at the same time on the record-breaking drive and exceeded the finish line just 25 km apart on the Nardo High-Speed Track in Italy.
