Manhart brings the M760Li back to life with a 711 hp upgrade

In a world that will soon welcome an all-electric 3 Series, it’s hard to imagine that BMW offered a V12 in its 7 Series until recently during the last World Cup. But they did a fine job, and the M760Li offered some driving experience too, with an engine fit for a Rolls-Royce and all the technology BMW had in its considerable arsenal until 2022. The last time PH drove one, a three-year-old example was considered better than a then-new Audi S8, thanks to its effortless comfort, surprising agility and epic 6.6-liter engine.

Manhart is apparently as much of a fan as John was back then, as it has launched a series of upgrades for the M760Li – despite it going out of production four years ago. They consider this MH7 700 a ‘modern interpretation of the ultimate luxury sedan’, with power for the N74B66 engine now standing at 711 hp. The torque is even more impressive, though, and that’s what really matters for easy, massive speed: 590 lb⋅ft has become 774 lb⋅ft. Or more than double that of an M240i. It’s all achieved by the MHtronik power box and a Manhart exhaust that promises ‘an even more distinctive sound’. When it comes to having a V12, if you have one, show it off, right?

Perhaps more than any other Manhart BMW, you probably want a long-wheelbase 7 Series to look pretty stealthy. For those who don’t, there are Manhart’s Concave One wheels available, plus some carbon body bits and of course the decal kit. The air suspension can even be lowered for a more powerful stance, and perhaps that’s another tweak we should pass on – a little more temper doesn’t hurt with 711bhp under the hood.

The completely redesigned interior may appeal more to M760Li customers than the carbon mirror slots, here with new colors, stitching and logos. Certainly more interesting than plain old black. Exactly what it will cost to make an M760Li like this is not entirely clear at the moment, as there is no price for the exhaust, but the €2,635 power box, €1,100 stickers and €500 air suspension violin will go a long way (if you can resist the carbon door handles). And how much for an M760Li donor car? About £100,000 less than would have been paid at the end of 2010…
