Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President On Monday (25 August 2025), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah insisted on forming an All-Party organ that visits the prisons where Kashmiri are submitted on the country, “know their conditions”.
“As a mother and a sister, I appeal to Mr. Abdullah to form an alternative committee that will visit Kashmiri prisoners who have been housed in prisons outside J&K. Mr. Abdullah should meet the Minister of the Interior and visit the prisoners return to the prisoners, said Mr. Abdy-Commission.
Mrs. Mufti made the statement after he had held a protest at the head office in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk. The party leaders claimed that the police denounced Mrs. Mufti when she was on her way to join her supporters.
“They (police) tried to stop the peaceful protest as if we were enemies. If they had stopped (police) perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack, the war between India and Pakistan could have been avoided,” said Mrs. Mufti about the police.
In the meantime, the PDP has tried for urgent reforms “to guarantee fair defense and regular family access” for prisoners. It demanded fast and time -bound tests, “so freedom is not lost due to endless delays”. “Mandatory production of accused during every hearing, who confirm open and honest justice,” said the PDP.
Pitching for ‘Butling, not the prison’ if the rule in accordance with constitutional guarantees, the PDP called for transparent application of remission in cases of life plans, without bias or discrimination.
“Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, convicted of rape and murder, is on conditional release, but such concessions are not provided to Kashmiri prisoners. No conditional release and leave as legal rights, of vital importance for reform and reintegration, they are offered,” said Mrs. Mufti.
And Mr Shah and Mr Shah and the complete implementation should not approach and maintain the rights of prisoners, “said Mrs. Mufti.
Mrs. Mufti said that most prisoners in prisons outside of J&K were accused and not convicted. “A youth from Pulwama is confronted with a process as an accused in the last 10 years. Much are confronted with urgent situations in prisons, especially those who belong to poor families,” she added.
Respond to the PDP protest about prisoners, J&K CM said Abdullah: “Protests in Srinagar will not change anything, because important decisions about J&K in Delhi will be made. Better if Mrs. Mufti had discussed the issue with Delhi.”
