Daniil Medvedev and Gilles Cervara, who have worked together for eight years, announced their split on social media on Sunday.
“Thank you Gilles ❤️,” Medvedev wrote on Instagram. “Great 8-10 years together, 20 titles, world number 1, but above all many fun moments and memories that will stay with us forever. I am grateful that you have guided me all those years and let’s see what life brings us in the future.”

In 2019, Cervara was named ATP coach of the year in the ATP Awards. That season, Medvedev earned his first two of the six ATP Masters 1000 trophies, won the Nitto ATP final in 2020, claimed its first major trophy in 2021 and then reached number 1 in the PIF ATP ranking lists in 2022, all under Cervara’s guidance.
The Medvedev player box is often sparsely populated, but Cervara has been a consistent figure since he first broke the ATP tour. The coach wrote an emotional message to his old indictment of the release of the news.
“Daniil, our fantastic adventure of eight seasons come together. As a symbolic wink of life, it is after this US Open Tournament that we end our collaboration,” Cervara wrote. “I am grateful and happy for all the great things and wonderful experiences that we were able to experience together on the field during these eight years. It remains etched in my memory forever.
“I thank you for confidence in me. I gave everything, every second, for our shared goals. I loved to train, to coach you, to support you (even if it was difficult) and finding solutions with you and the team to help you act. I will love your unconventional magic as a player, what is your strength.”
This season, Medvedev has a record of 26-18 according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index and lost just in the first round of the US Open to Benjamin Bonzi. He is no. 16 in the PIF ATP Live ranking.
