There is a saying that pressure is a privilege, and that is certainly the case for McLaren at the moment.

Creating such a dominant car and having two close -together drivers that are active at a high level gives it such a strong chance of doing a championship doubles, but that is never a flexible path when title rivals fight.

An extremely impressive constructor championship success was sealed in Singapore with another quarter of the season to be dealt with, but it ran the risk of being overshadowed by a narrow moment between Lando Norris and Oscar Piaastri in turn 3 that the Australians had interviewed for a lack of action about the radio.

“That was not very team -like, but certain,” said Piastri after contact between the two, before he asked later, “Are we cool with Lando who just hardens me?”

In reality, the ship was not the result of a deliberate movement of Norris, but more a by -product of not only Norris who tries to pass the championship leader, but also to make contact with the car of the Achterste Max Verstappen, who induced a snap that brought the two McLarens together.

The contact was perhaps light, but it was the result of Norris’s aggression anyway.

“I think the start was good all the right side of the grid was good,” said Norris. “I think it was also a good launch, so I came over and put myself in a good position not to be checked out of corner 1 and in turn 2.

“I just had a big one on the inside of Oscar. It was very close because it was still damp and drying out in places. I think I just cut the back of Max’s car, and that just gave me a small correction, but then it was.

“Good at terms of getting two positions. If I didn’t get them there, I would probably never have received them, just because, as we saw, it was too difficult to catch up. The aggression there and the forward thinking has paid off.”

Norris then clarified: “I hit Max, so it was not aggressive on my teammate.”

Piastri was not so convinced at the time, nor was his side of the garage, with some surprised that no radio message had been sent to Norris on the move. In both Austria and Hungary this year, Piastri was warned of attempts to make up for his teammate who were considered too far outside of acceptable levels.

But on every occasion, Piastri was still the next car and might try another movement. While De Lunge led in Singapore on Sunday that Norris was coming forward, and apart from the imposition of a team order to give up, you could claim that any communication with Norris could wait about the incident.

It should wait a little longer, because the combined finish of third and fourth the title of the constructors secure and started parties that would prevent the team from immediately treating a fall -out between the drivers.

But it did not stop being the first topic of conversation when team head Andrea Stella spoke.

“I think the situation in the first round is one of those who can happen if it is a narrow race,” said Stella. “We will assess the situation together with our drivers. We will have the good conversations as we had, for example after Canada. This review gave us the opportunity after Canada to come back, as we said at the time, even more united and stronger as a team.

“We will see if there is any learning and everything we have to refine in terms of our approach, but I think this will simply lead to some good conversations.

“It is clear that Oscar made some statements while he was in the car, but that is the kind of character that we want from our drivers. They must make their position very clear. That is what we ask them.

“At the same time, we have to put things in perspective – the perspective of a driver that is in a formula 1 car with the intensity of it bee the first lap, the perspective that obviously just sawo moving into him. We know that lando, and contact with a, and ay, and a. And we re -stiffen, and we re -stiffness, and we re -stiffen and we have stiffen and oh we have stiffen a little to stiffen and we have a stature and good should we re -hugs. Reviews, Good Conversations, and Like After Canada, We’ll Come Back Stronger Than Ever. ”

Norris claimed: “Everyone on the schedule would have done exactly the same as I,” adding it: “I think you should not be in Formula 1,” if you have accused him of the decision to go a gap.

Stella warned that there could be two sides of such an approach, and that a more nuanced analysis would be needed to keep both drivers on the side.

“Our assessment must be very detailed, very analytical,” Stella expanded. “It must take into account the position of our two drivers, and then we form a common opinion, based on which we will see if we can simply meet our first interpretation, or there is something else that we have to conclude.

“In terms of going for the gap, I think it’s just a bit too much of a gross approach, let me say. We have to retain a higher degree of refinement and detail, because there are so many elements that you have to take into account, and we must ensure that we do not become too fast in drawing conclusions.

“We have to be correct because there is a lot at stake. Much at stake is not only the championship points, but it is also the confidence of our drivers in the way we work as a team. This is, if there is something, even more fundamental than the points itself. We will apply all the accuracy that is needed in this case and all the conversations that are needed.”

Norris sometimes came across as defensive after the race, but also stated that he had to analyze the incident himself after jumping out of the car. Piastri took the same attitude and would not be drawn on a strong opinion about the record, where both drivers show insight that the contact could be more.

With Stella so much to protect the trust of the pair, the party that has been wrongly confirmed – Piastri – confirmed that he had a full conviction that the two drivers are being treated equally.

“I think that in the end,” said Piastri. “There have clearly been some difficult situations for the entire team, and we clearly talked about a number of things.

“Could it be better on certain points? Yes. In the end it is a learning process with the entire team.

“I am very, very happy that the intentions mean very well, if that makes sense. I have absolutely no worries about that. Of course there have been a number of difficult situations this year, and this is one.”

With back-to-back Constructors’ championships in the bag, McLaren knows that there will be even more focus on how things are going to be two drivers. It would not have to temper the celebrations or praise of the work that the team has done so far, but the fact that conversations are required in which the drivers are involved – after a race where Max Verstappen gained even more ground – simply emphasizes how the Singapore success will fade in insignificantness against the background of the drivers’s fight.
