McLaren drops thin from Driver Development Program | Racer

McLaren has separated with young driver Alex Dunne with an immediate entrance, after he has not reached an agreement on the future opportunities of the Irishman.

Dunne made an impression as a member of McLaren’s Formula 1 Driver Development Program, especially when he made his FP1 debut for the team in Austria earlier this year. A Rookie in F2 won two of the first four gaming races, but his form has fallen and he is now fifth, 58 points drift from championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli.

Racer understands that McLaren has tried to agree the conditions to continue with thin, but that the offered that were not considered acceptable, and in the midst of potential interest of Red Bull, the decision was made to end the 19-year-old contract early.

“It was a pleasure to work with Alex in the past year and to be able to contribute to his success and growth as a director through the McLaren Driver Development Program,” said a statement by McLaren. “Alex will be released with immediate effect. We wish Alex the very best for his career in the future.”

McLaren currently has both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris among long -term contracts, where the team will probably conclude its second consecutive constructors’ championship in Singapore this weekend.

Dunne is supposed to have attracted interest from Red Bull, where the Laurent Mekies team tries to identify the options in the driver market before he connects to his line-up alongside Max Verstappen and his combination at Racing Bulls for 2026.
