Connor McDavid spoke with the media Again on Friday on Friday, say many of the same things that he said on Thursday. He plans to win in Edmonton; He makes his time with his decision about a contract extension and he does not believe that his situation will be a distraction for the oilers.
On Friday, however, McDavid said something else that was interesting. It might have been a slip, or an unintended wrong teat, but he hinted when he said that all options are on the table with regard to term. Even “no term” was an option.
When asked by Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 as a part of the decision he works, includes what he has to sign for and whether a shorter term is a better option, McDavid, like many other factors, comes in.
His exact words were: “All options are on the table. That would mean the duration of the term. Short term. Long term. No term.”
The latter part has to worry a bit for fans of oilers.
No longer draws something that McDavid is considering?
“No term” means that he will let his current contract run up. This season he has left for $ 12.5 million and then he is an unlimited free agent. The thought that he may not have been signed the year is already a reality with which people get a grip. To be honest, could he think that he will drive away all season and go to July 1 without a new deal?
Most believe that the chance of “no term” is slim for anyone. He said it, however. Some believe he would not have it if the thought had not come to him. If that is something he tends to, the oilers will have a difficult decision to make.
They can’t let him play the year without an extension. The risk of what they could give up is too great.
Word around the Oilers is that they are not worried. McDavid seems as if he is just going through different scenarios before he makes his decision and approaches the team to complete things. Still, the more he talks about it, the more times that it comes out that it was not meant to be taken that way or not meant to be said aloud. This would have been one of those times, even if the remark by many seemed to go unnoticed.
