Mazda has unveiled a new electric crossover for Europe. It’s called the CX-6e and is the European version of the company’s Chinese-built EZ-60. Mazda launched the model today at the Brussels Motor Show in Germany, and it will go on sale later this year.

The CX-6e features a 78.0 kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery that powers a rear-mounted electric motor. All together it produces 254 hp and 214 Nm of torque, pushing the EV to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.9 seconds.

The car looks identical to its Chinese sibling. Inside, the CX-6e features a huge 26.0-inch display with a dual-split layout. It lacks a traditional driver display and instead features a large head-up 3D display, which can overlay the navigation route on the road. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

Mazda says the EV has “a full suite of driver assistance systems.” These include smart brake support, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring. It has an estimated range of up to 500 kilometers in the WLTP cycle and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes.

The CX-6e shares its architecture with the Changan Depal S07 and rides on Changan’s EPA1 platform. It is suitable for electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, which Mazda offers in other markets.

The Mazda CX-6e will be launched in Europe this summer. No word yet on the price.

Taking Motor1s: This is Mazda’s second model it has co-developed and launched with Changan, and the partnership provides the Japanese automaker with access to flexible electrified platforms for new products. We’ll never see the CX-6e in the United States, but it’s a reminder that China’s influence in Europe continues to grow.
